Rusk High School closed April 1

Apr. 1—The Rusk High School is closed Monday, April 1, according to an announcement made to school's Facebook page. The closure affects the high school campus only. Other campuses will be open and conducting classes.

The high school was closed due to a fire that occurred Sunday night.

Superintendent Grey Burton said the fire is believed, but not confirmed, to have started with a computer in one of the classrooms.

"We don't know if it was a computer or it was electrical," Burton said. "We know the computer was melted and the wire in the wall caught fire."

The administration will have the electrical system checked and a restoration company is on site to provide cleanup.

"We didn't have any other damage, but with the fire department coming in we had some water in some areas," Burton said. "Hopefully, we'll be able to come back tomorrow."

An announcement is expected sometime Monday afternoon regarding when the campus will reopen for classes.
