Rural Sacramento County fire district improves fire protection rating

(FOX40.COM) — Residents within the River Delta Fire District will be happy to hear that their property insurance may see a decrease as the fire district recently improved its fire protection rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO), according to the fire district.

On Sunday, the fire district announced they have improved from a Class-5 fire protection rating to a Class-4. The ranking is from one to 10 with a one being the best and 10 being the worst.

“What an amazing accomplishment for our Fire District and our entire community,” said Fire District Board President Les Wolfson. “This is a true testament to the level of commitment in providing excellent service to our residents.”

The improved rating follows an independent investigation by ISO into the structural fire suppression delivery system of the River Delta Fire District.

During their analysis of a fire district or department, ISO looks at:
• Fire Suppression
• Fire Department Operations
• Training
• Emergency Communications
• Water Supply
• Community Risk Reduction

Along with showing the true quality of a fire district/department, these ISO ratings also inform property insurers on how much premiums should be in a given zone, according to River Delta.

“The price of property insurance in a community with a better ISO rating is often lower than in a
community with a poorer ISO rating,” the fire district wrote in a news release. “Property owners within the River Delta Fire District are encouraged to contact their insurance providers and ask how this Class-4 rating may affect their premiums as the current rating is an improvement over the District’s previous Class-5 rating.”

The River Delta Fire District covers much of the rural area to the north and south of the City of Isleton from the San Joaquin River to Steamboat Slough.

About 1,500 residents live within the district year-round and during peak months there can be 10,000 people within the district on weekends.

The fire district said that a rural district receiving a Class-4 rating is not down to luck and took a significant amount of preparation and organization to accomplish along with support from surrounding fire districts/departments.

“Automatic Aid Agreements with Woodbridge Fire District, Montezuma Fire District and South Sacramento County Fire Agencies played a role in the Class-4 rating and we greatly appreciate our cooperators for their assistance,” the fire district wrote.
