Ruck March raises awareness in fight against veteran suicide

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — Dozens of military veterans spent part of their Memorial Day weekend on the march. About 100 people took part in the annual Gulf Coast Silkies Ruck March Saturday morning.

Veterans marched with heavy packs a distance of 10 miles from the Wharf in Orange Beach to the Flora-Bama bar on the Florida state line. The event is meant to raise awareness of veteran suicide. They were also raising money to build a memorial in honor of fallen Mobile Police Officer Sean Tudor. He was killed in the line of duty in 2019. Tudor was also a member of the Alabama Army National Guard. They’re planning another ruck march for Veterans Day.
