RPU will resume disconnections on Aug. 2

Jul. 13—In August, Rochester Public Utilities will resume disconnecting customers who have not paid their bills.

The city utility put disconnections on hold in March 2020 because of the pandemic.

As of June 30, RPU reported that approximately 1,300 residential and commercial accounts were past due, with a total of $3 million owed.

RPU customers with outstanding balances will receive a disconnection notice, with a date that their service will be cut if no payment is made. Disconnections are set to start Aug. 2.

Any customer who is behind on their RPU bill should contact the utility to make a payment or set up a payment arrangement.

Financial and energy assistance resources can be found on the RPU website at www.rpu.org under the Community Resources page, or by calling RPU Customer Care at 507-280-1500.
