RPD makes arrest in deadly 2023 shooting investigation

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke Police Department has announced that a man is facing charges in connection to the deadly shooting investigation from August 2023.

Roanoke police told WFXR that 33-year-old Ronald L. Bonds III, from Roanoke, was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Discharging a Firearm in Public.

As we previously reported, in August of 2023 officers were called to the 100 block of Patton Avenue NW for a person with a gunshot wound. There, police found a teenage boy with a gunshot wound.

He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

During the investigation, officers located a second teenage boy in a vehicle near the intersection of 2nd Street and Gilmer Avenue NW. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police said no one has been charged with murder at this time and the shooting remains under investigation.
