Royal wedding number 3 as Lady Gabriella Windsor announces engagement
Buckingham Palace has announced its third Royal wedding in a year, as it confirms Lady Gabriella Windsor, the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, is engaged to marry financier Tom Kingston.
Lady Gabriella, who is 50th in line to the throne, is likely to marry her 40-year-old fiance in the spring, the palace indicated.
The couple have been dating for a number of years and Mr Kingston proposed while they were on the island of Sark this summer.
It follows the May wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, announced in November last year, and the Windsor Castle nuptials of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank next month.
Buckingham Palace said in a short statement: "Prince and Princess Michael of Kent are delighted to announce the engagement of their daughter Lady Gabriella Windsor to Mr Thomas Kingston.
"The engagement took place in August; Mr Kingston proposed on the Isle of Sark."
At 37, Lady Gabriella is thought to be the oldest first-time Royal bride in recent years after forging a successful career and living overseas.
She endured unexpected public attention earlier this year thanks to a Vanity Fair article by her former boyfriend Aatish Taseer, who detailed a lurid account of their time together at Kensington Palace.
Known to her family and friends as Ella, Lady Gabriella studied at Brown University in America and works as an arts and travel director for brand company Branding Latin America, based in Knightsbridge, London.
She is also a board director for the Playing for Change Foundation, an arts education body, and has previously written for various newspapers and magazines.
Her fiance is a director of Devonport Capital, which specialises in providing finance for companies in "frontier economies".
He is a friend of Pippa Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister.
Lady Gabriella’s father, Prince Michael, is the Queen’s cousin and regularly represents the Royal family at public engagements. Her mother, Princess Michael, is an author who has been nicknamed “Princess Pushy” for her forthright views.
