Royal Wedding Details We Can Count On
Last month, Prince Harry surprised the world and his American love, Meghan Markle, by getting down on one knee and popping the question. Now, it's REALLY official! The date has been set for May 19, 2018!
Ever since the Royal Family announced the engagement on November 27, the world has waited with bated breath to find out more details of the upcoming royal wedding. While many of the details will be kept secret until the May 2018 nuptials, there are a handful royal wedding traditions we can count on.
White Dress Like most brides, the future princess will walk down the aisle in a white wedding dress. It was actually Harry's great-great-great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria, who popularized the tradition of wearing a white wedding gown when she married Prince Albert in 1840.
Spring of Myrtle In keeping with royal tradition, the bride's bouquet will contain a sprig of myrtle- or the "herb of love." This tradition is another that traces all the way back to the 1800's.
Wedding Party Like many families across the world, the Royal Family is close-knit and typically likes to include one another in milestone events. We saw this in 2011 when Prince Harry served as William's supporter (or best man) at his marriage to Katherine, Duchess of Cambridge. Little royals, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, will likely steal the show when they serve as a pageboy and bridesmaid at the May 2018 ceremony.
Wedding Band We don't yet know if Harry will display his commitment on his left hand, but we do know that Meghan's wedding band will contain Welsh gold. This royal tradition has been held dear to the Royal Family since the 1923 nuptials of Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother to King George VI. Lucky for Meghan, yellow gold is her favorite! Titles When the knot is officially tied, Markle will officially assume the title of her husband and become HRH Meghan, Princess Henry of Wales.
