The Royal Prince: U.S., International Media Welcome Kate & William’s Third #RoyalBaby
The Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a baby boy, fifth in line to the British throne, a move welcomed by U.S. and foreign media.
Prince William and the Duchess Kate Middleton welcomed the boy at St. Mary’s Hospital. International media was in a slight panic this morning after Middleton went into labor in the early hours because of an agreement not to crowd the hospital before she was admitted.
CNN, the BBC and a number of other outlets have started to devote their schedules to the birth, however, despite interest in the Royal Family at a high ahead of the wedding between Prince Harry and Suits star Meghan Markle, the fact that it’s the pair’s third child, and one with little chance of becoming King, have meant that the coverage is not quite as breathless as before.
The arrival of Royal Baby No. 3 did, however, offer London news outlets a chance to spice up a relatively slow news day, unlike the birth of his sister, who was born ahead of the country’s general election. The child has been born on St. George’s Day, the feast day of the patron saint of England.
The new arrival, who is the Queen’s sixth great-grandchild, weighed in at 8lbs 7oz. A Kensington Palace statement said mother and new son are “both doing well”. “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news,” it added.
