Royal Caribbean employee accused of using hidden cameras to record women, girls in guest bathrooms

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Royal Caribbean cruise ship employee was arrested after he allegedly set up hidden cameras inside passengers’ bathrooms and recorded them without their knowledge.

According to NBC affiliate WTVJ, Arvin Joseph Mirasol, 34, was arrested on Sunday after a passenger on the Symphony of the Seas cruise found a camera inside her stateroom bathroom.

The guest, who was staying in the room with her sister and mother, found the camera when she reached under the sink to get a roll of toilet paper on Feb. 26. The woman reportedly found the camera affixed to the counter and notified authorities.

An arrest report obtained by WTVJ showed that Mirasol worked as a stateroom attendant and was responsible for servicing guest cabins, including cleaning, restocking towels, and making beds.

After seizing Mirasol’s phone and USB, authorities “found numerous videos of named females undressing in bathrooms as well as child pornography,” WTVJ reported. One video allegedly showed Mirasol installing the camera.

During an interview, Mirasol reportedly told officials that he installed the cameras and had been doing so since he started working on the Symphony of the Seas cruise in December 2023.

“I want to control it, but I can’t,” Mirasol told investigators, the affidavit showed. He also allegedly admitted that “he likes whoever is staying in the room.”

According to WTVJ, Mirasol said he would install the cameras and choose girls who were 16 years old and over. He also told officials “he would hide under guests’ beds while they took showers” and would record them naked.
