Rowan extends enrollment deadline for first-year students, cites delays from FAFSA Act

GLASSBORO - Following delays from a recent act simplifying the FAFSA process, Rowan University announced an extension for enrollment.

Potential first-year students will now have until June 1 to officially enroll in the school, a decision made after delays from the 2020 FAFSA Simplification Act.

The university said in a news release this week that the act, which was intended to make the financial aid process easier for students, has caused delays in data processing and spreading, which could make it more difficult for students to make "informed decisions about their education."

“We understand the challenges students and their families are facing,” said Darren Wagner, vice president for Strategic Enrollment Management. “Ensuring access to an affordable education lies at the cornerstone of Rowan’s mission. This extension underscores our dedication to supporting students during this time of uncertainty.”

Fast facts about Rowan’s enrollment change:

  • Rowan's new student enrollment has been extended to June 1 to give students more time to evaluate their financial options.

  • The FAFSA Simplification Act resulted in an overhaul of the previous FAFSA system that awards federal student aid. This upcoming class is the first aid-year that will see changes from the act.

  • Major changes to the FAFSA, according to StudentAid.gov, include replacing Expected Family Contribution with Student Aid Index, modifying family definitions in FAFSA formulas, expanding Pell Grant Access and "streamlining" the FAFSA form.
