Here's a roundup of recent incidents and announcements from Ventura County agencies:

Victim in fatal crash identified

New details were released Sunday on a head-on fatal crash on Fifth Street, east of the Oxnard city limits.

The victim was identified as Martin Cono Infante, 33, of Oxnard, the California Highway Patrol said in a news release.

Infante was driving eastbound late Friday in a Volvo sedan when the vehicle crossed solid double yellow lines and into the path of a GMC pickup truck traveling west, the CHP said.

The driver of the truck, a 46-year-old woman from Oxnard, sustained minor injuries.

Officers said they don't know if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash reported around 10:30 p.m.

Motorist hospitalized after freeway chase

A 26-year-old motorist from Oxnard was hospitalized Sunday with moderate injuries after trying to evade a sheriff’s deputy pursuing him on southbound Highway 101 on the north end of Ventura, officials said.

The man was observed driving a sedan weaving on the freeway before the vehicle hit a guard rail and light pole shortly before 1 a.m. near the California Street exit, Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Greg Gibson said.

Gibson said the man was transported by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center with multiple fractures but no life-threatening injuries. The motorist is being investigated on suspicion of driving under the influence, but had not been arrested as of late Sunday afternoon.

A passenger in the vehicle received minor injuries and was also transported to the Ventura hospital.
