Roundup: Juvenile stabbed in Simi Valley, Ojai man rescued, more news

Here's a roundup of recent incidents and announcements from Ventura County agencies:

Juvenile stabbed in Simi Valley

A male juvenile was reported stabbed early Sunday morning in Simi Valley, police said.

The individual was transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks and was expected to survive.

Police Cmdr. Tim Wedemeyer said the stabbing was reported around 1:30 a.m. Sunday by a resident who was alerted by someone knocking on the resident's door. Police do not know where the stabbing occurred, he said.

He said it was unclear if the stabbing occurred during a fight.

Police are still investigating the stabbing and have not yet made an arrest. More details may be released later this week, Wedemeyer said.

Injured man airlifted from Ojai

A man struck by a vehicle while riding a three-wheel mobility scooter in Ojai Saturday was flown by helicopter to a hospital, authorities said.

The incident was reported around 3:40 p.m. near Grand Avenue and Lion Street, according to Ventura County Fire Department reports.

Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Rob Yoos said the rider, described as elderly, suffered a head injury and visible abrasions to his arms. While the injuries weren't considered life-threatening, due to the victim's age and out of an abundance of caution, the sheriff's Copter 9 flew him from the scene.

Sheriff's deputies also responded to the scene. The sheriff's office is contracted to provide police services in Ojai.

Radio traffic indicated the patient was flown to Ventura County Medical Center.

Impaired drivers arrested in Oxnard traffic safety effort

Dozens of arrests and citations for driving violations were issued during a special enforcement period over the weekend in Oxnard.

Oxnard police said they conducted a checkpoint for motorists driving under the influence of alcohol as well as without driver's licenses at Pleasant Valley Road and Jefferson Square in the extreme southeastern portion of the city. They also checked for DUI violators in a citywide effort. Both operations were conducted from 7 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday.

The operations resulted in six arrests for suspected impaired driving, five citations for driving on suspended licenses and 27 citations for unlicensed driving.

Checkpoint locations are based on the history of crashes and DUI arrests in particular areas. The primary purpose is not to make arrests but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired, police said in a news release.

Funding was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
