Rough Edge EDC: Budget-friendly find adds to daily carry

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – I recently completed another successful journey around the sun, and with that, I got a few new knives added to my EDC rotation/collection.

If you read this space regularly, you know I won a Finch Halo and CRKT Testy in a giveaway from YouTube channel Big Red EDC during its super fun and informative Saturday Knife Live livestream. They arrived just in time for my birthday.

What is EDC? Here is a look at some daily carry items

I also bought myself a Rough Rider Desert Fox folding hunting knife as a gift to myself. This is an absolutely beautiful knife, especially for the $25 price point.

But the knife that has been kind of flying under the radar, so to speak, is my new Kubey Royal. Again, this was another gift I bought for myself.

I have a confession. I had never heard of the brand before, but Big Red EDC had an offer that was hard to resist. So I gave them a try. Since then, I have learned that Kubey makes quality knives that are affordable.

Kubey was already having a sale on its line of knives that use D2 steel.

The knife I was eyeing – the Royal – was originally priced at $60 but the D2 sale knocked that down to $48.

Big Red EDC also had a discount code that knocked another 37 percent off the price. (Note: This is a code that anyone can use; you don’t have to be a channel member to use it. More on that later).

So I got my Kubey Royal for $30, right in line with my comfort zone. And that included shipping.

In the past couple of weeks, I have finally put my Kubey into my daily rotation and have been carrying it almost every day.

It is super “slicey” and has great action with a satisfying “snap” when you deploy the blade.

It has black G10 handles that feel grippy and it uses a front flipper to deploy the blade. It is not my favorite way to open a knife, but for the price, I will learn how to use it – kind of like when I got a pickup truck with a clutch when I graduated from college.

The blade is just under 3 inches long and the knife has an unobtrusive pocket clip that can be switched to accommodate a lefty.

It is fast becoming one of my favorite knives.

It looks sharp, is sharp and has proven itself to be a good “work” knife around the house, yard and even the office.

JB at Big Red EDC tells me that the sale is still going on. You can get 37 percent off on Kubey knives with D2 steel blades and 6 percent off on their other knives by using his codes. The codes are BR37ZH for the discount on D2 models and BR06ZH for 6 percent off non-D2 knives.
