Rotary Minute: Sarah Frye Ada Homeless Services

Apr. 13—Ada Sunrise Rotary welcomed Sarah Frye with Ada Homeless Services to their regular meeting on Friday. Frye has directed Ada Homeless Services for over 9 years. AHS currently has 4 full-time employees.

In 2023, AHS had revenue of $390,719 and expenses of $336,900. The largest source of revenue is a federal grant from the Housing and Urban Development Department that targets rural homelessness. The largest expense is the Rapid Rehousing program which pays for emergency needs such as hotel rooms or paying rent or utility bills.

"Money doesn't fix homelessness," Frye stated. Getting a person into a place to live will not succeed if there are underlying issues such as mental health or addiction issues.

Frye works with many other groups and services and noted that communication has improved in Ada since the Covid pandemic. Frye frequently collaborates with Mama T's, Ada Police, Ada Code Inspector, Drug Court, Lighthouse, Goodwill, Chickasaw Nation, and others.

AHS is especially seeking donations of new pillows. They donations can be brought to the AHS office at 317 W. 12th Street. Other current needs include towels, sheets, kitchen items, and basic furniture. Toiletries and cleaning supplies are also welcome.

A website at www.adaresourcelist.com is available to identify emergency help in many areas. If you or someone you know is in need, please contact AHS at 580-272-0211 or adahomelessservices@gmail.
