Roosevelt County grant helps with tire disposal

Apr. 23—Roosevelt County has been awarded Environmental Department grant funds for scrap tire amnesty days, according to a county news release.

County residents can bring scrap tires to the Roosevelt County Road Department at 1500 N. Boston between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday or Tuesday, the release states.

The county will not accept tractor-trailer, agricultural use, or other oversized tires or loads from a commercial tire shop.

"This is a new grant endeavor for the Road Department and we hope it will help reduce the amount of illegal dumping of scrap tires on County roads," interim Road Superintendent Juan Dominguez stated in the news release.

"This will be our first tire amnesty collection and we strongly encourage residents to take advantage of this free opportunity and dispose of your scrap tires appropriately."
