Roof collapses during weekend fires in Crockett County
SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Fifteen firefighters battled two active structure fires overnight on May 11 that saw the metal roof of one building collapse.
According to Crockett County Fire & Emergency Medical Service, it was dispatched at 2:45 a.m. near the area of Monterey Street and Largo Street for an active structure fire. Fifteen firefighters and 5 apparatuses responded to the call.
Flames had fully engulfed the building upon the first responders’ arrival, though no one was inside. The fire had also spread to an adjacent occupied home, which one individual exited on their own.
The firefighters began to douse the inferno, and the fire was deemed under control by 3:30 a.m. Units remained at the scene to continue cooling efforts, and all first responders left the area at 5:50 a.m.
Crockett County Fire & EMS reported that the metal roof of one of the buildings collapsed, trapping smoldering contents underneath it. It warned Ozona residents that smoke may be visible from the scene for an extended period of time.
“Thank you to Crockett County Sheriff’s Office, DPS, NatGas and AEP for the assistance during this incident,” Crockett County Fire & EMS said.
