Ron Paul ‘strongly against’ debt deal

Texas Rep. Ron Paul is “strongly against” the debt ceiling compromise between the White House and congressional leaders, a spokesman said.

Gary Howard, a campaign spokesman for Paul, confirmed the congressman’s position to The Daily Caller. (RELATED: Huntsman praises House for debt vote, dings rivals)

It comes as no surprise, as Paul has repeatedly spoken out against raising the debt ceiling.

He joins a list of 2012 presidential candidates who have spoken out against the deal, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman is the sole candidate to have publicly endorsed the plan.
