Romney Spanish-Language Ad Ties Obama to Castro, Chavez in Miami
A new Romney Spanish-language ad running in Miami attempts to tie President Obama to Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez and the Castros in Cuba, reports the Miami Herald.
“Who supports Barack Obama?” a narrator asks, according to a Herald translation. The ad then shows clips of Chavez and Fidel Castro's niece, Mariela Castro, supporting the president. It also attempts to tie communist revolutionary Che Guevara to the Obama administration.
The Romney campaign has attempted to tie these figures to Obama in the past, in an effort to shore up Latino support in south Florida. The Sunshine State is a key battleground.
The ad follows Romney events in Miami and Tampa in which he touted the need for bipartisanship and unity throughout the country.
“This is a quite a time for the country, as you know,” Romney told crowds in Tampa and Miami, according to the Herald. “We’re going through trauma in a major part of the country ... It’s interesting to see how people come together in circumstances like this.”
