With the announcement of the new Rolls-Royce Ghost Prism to mark the brand’s 120th anniversary this year, we’re seeing yet another modern collectible car in the making. Getting your hands on one could prove to be difficult unless you have considerable pull with the storied British automaker, which is why everyone will want one.

See the one-off Rolls-Royce shooting brake which recently sold.

Production of the Prism will be limited to just 120 units. Each one wears Gunmetal paint, which Rolls-Royce says has a “rich mineral finish.” Application of four layers of the paint is followed by 16 hours of hand polishing, creating a dramatic effect.

The Gunmetal paint is accented by a buyer’s choice of one of four accent colors in the front lower fascia, pinstriping down the sides, brake calipers, and is also present in details throughout the interior, including all 1,040 lights in the Starlight Headliner.

Those color choices are Phoenix Red, Turchese, Mandarin, and Forge Yellow. It will be interesting to see how many of each are ordered.

Instead of the usual bright mirror-polished stainless steel finish on the Ghost Prism’s grille and trunk lid, a high-gloss Burnout finish which Rolls-Royce describes as a “smoked black-grey hue” is applied.

To achieve that effect, artisans use a light abrasive on each piece of trim. After they apply primer, four coats of Burnout paint are applied in turn. Once the paint has fully cured, it’s polished to a high-gloss finish, creating a dark mirror appearance.

The pairing of darkness with a splash of color is supposed to mimic a prism effect, with inspiration drawn from contemporary design. Further punctuating the theme of contrast is a black interior with white on the seats, door panels, center console, etc.

With global production capped at 120 Rolls-Royce Ghost Prisms, we expect these to be spoken for rapidly. And as they enter the private market or cross public auction blocks, our anticipation is the value will increase robustly.
