Rollover crash kills Kingsley driver

May 24—TRAVERSE CITY — A Kingsley man was killed after he was thrown from his SUV in a rollover crash, Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office reported.

The 30-year-old driver was heading west on Miller Road in a 2021 Land Rover when he ran a stop sign at the intersection of County Road 633, Lt. Jon Morgan said.

A crash notification from an Apple phone or watch notified first responders of the incident at 11:57 p.m. Thursday. A few minutes later, a witness also called 911 to report the crash.

The man's SUV went into a ditch on the right side of the road, hitting rocks and trees, and rolling multiple times before throwing the driver from his seat, the preliminary investigation report said.

He was pronounced dead at Munson Medical Center shortly thereafter, Morgan said.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash, he said.

The investigation is continuing; the man's name will not be released until next-of-kin are notified.
