Rockwood man facing attempted murder charge in Cumberland County shooting

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Rockwood man faces an attempted murder charge after a shooting that left a woman injured Monday, March 11.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, agents joined Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies in response to a report of a shooting at a home in the 2000 block of Smith Mountain Road in east Cumberland County. The shooting reportedly left a woman injured, and she was transported by helicopter to a Knoxville hospital. She continues to be treated for injuries, according to the TBI.

During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Johnathan Duncan, 29, of Rockwood, as the individual responsible for the shooting. Agents also said he was an acquaintance of the victim’s.

Duncan was arrested in the early morning hours Friday, March 15, by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department S.W.A.T. team and charged with one count of attempted first degree murder and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was booked into the Cumberland County Jail with a $1,035,000 bond.
