Rockies' Dahl leaves game with ugly ankle sprain

Colorado Rockies All-Star outfielder David Dahl is believed to have a right ankle sprain, the team announced after Friday's game against the San Francisco Giants in Denver, according to Yahoo Sports.

Dahl was carted off the field in the top of the sixth inning after appearing to bend his right leg awkwardly as he tried to change direction to catch a line drive hit by Scooter Gennett, who was making his debut with the Giants.

Dahl tried to plant his left foot to reach back for the ball, and while he made the catch, his right ankle buckled in the process. The team said it was too soon to tell how severe the injury is.

His teammates tried to console Dahl before he left the field.

A first-time All-Star this season, Dahl went 1-for-3 on Friday, leaving him at .302 for the season. He has 15 home runs, 67 RBIs and 61 runs scored.

The 22-year-old Dahl, the 10th overall pick in the 2012 draft, has a lengthy injury history, having missed most of the 2013 season in the minors with a severely torn hamstring.

After hitting .315 in his rookie season with the Rockies in 2016, Dahl missed all of 2017 with a rib-cage injury.
