The Rock says he doesn't have time to run for president in 2020

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been pretty clear about his interest in running for president in 2020 — but apparently, he's taking it all back.

After months of speculation, the actor told Vanity Fair on Tuesday that a bid for the White House in the next presidential election will not be happening.

"Unfortunately I don’t see it happening in 2020. It’s a position that requires years of hard work and experience to learn the skills. There’s a lot of ground to cover, and due to my schedule, it’s not possible in 2020,” Johnson told Vanity Fair during the premiere of his latest film, Skyscraper.

“I have so much respect for the position. It’s something that I seriously considered. What I need is time to go out and learn," he explained.

While Jonson has talked about running on social media previously, speculation about his political future reached new heights when the Washington Post shared an op-ed about another President Johnson — and The Rock shared it on Instagram with a note.

"I care DEEPLY about our country ... and the idea of one day becoming President to create real positive impact and global change is very alluring," he wrote. "Buuuuut until that possible day, the most important thing right now is strong honest leadership from our current and future leaders of this country.

In the meantime, he'll still be making movies — and maybe we'll see another national convention appearance from him in 2020. There's always 2024 for a campaign from the 46-year-old, I suppose.
