Class 4A

Northwestern 50, Greenwood 0

The Northwestern Trojans routed Greenwood 50-0 in the second round of the playoffs Saturday afternoon at District Three Stadium.

Northwestern improved to 11-1 on the year and will play at home next Friday against Westside.

Catawba Ridge 37, North Augusta 14

The Catawba Ridge Copperheads took a 14-0 lead after one period and went on to topple North Augusta 37-14 in the second round of the playoffs Friday night in North Augusta.

The Copperheads took a 14-0 lead after one perod. Tyler Fikis scored both touchdowns. The first was on a four-yard run and the second was from six yards out.

North Augusta cut the deficit to 14-7 at halftime on a one-yard run by DJ Curry.

Catawba Ridge went up 21-7 in the third quarter when Fikis passed to Miles Baucom. North Augusta countered on a seven-yard run by Curry to slice the lead to 21-14 after three quarters were in the books.

Kohen Kozel’s 39-yard field goal gave the Copperheads a 24-14 lead early in the final period. They made it 30-14 when Tyler Jones scored on a one-yard run.

The Copperheads closed the scoring when Sheldon Crawford intercepted a pass and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown.

The Copperheads improved to 11-1 on the year. They will travel to play Greenville in the third round next Friday night.

Greenville 24, South Pointe 20

Greenville edged the South Pointe Stallions 24-20 in the second round of the playoffs Friday night in Greenville.

Greenville opened the scoring with a 44-yard field goal by Thomas Guerrero, and that 3-0 score held up through the end of the opening quarter. They made it 10-0 early in the second quarter when quarterback Bryson Drummond passed to MJ Bennett on a 15-yard play.

The Stallions answered when quarterback Malachi Marshall hooked up with Armendez Huskey on a 69-yard play to cut the deficit to 10-7. Drummond answered for Greenville with a 21-yard pass to Tyler Brown, and it was 17-7 at halftime.

South Pointe cut the lead to 17-14 midway through the third period when Marshall passed to Huskey on a five-yard play.

Greenville countered. Drummond passed to Cameron Perfater on an eight-yard play to stretch the lead to 24-14.

The Stallions answered in the fourth period when Jae Sanders passed to Marshall on a four-yard play. That made it 24-20 after the extra point was missed because of a bad snap.

South Pointe ended its season with an overall record of 8-4.

Westside 39, Indian Land 35

Westside edged the Indian Land Warriors 39-35 in the second round of the playoffs Friday night in Anderson.

After a scoreless first quarter, both teams scored twice for a 14-14 tie at intermission.

Hunter Puckett gave Westside a 7-0 lead on a two-yard run, but Jaden Singletary answered for Indian Land on an 8-yard run to tie it at 7-7. Westside went up 14-7 when quarterback Cutter Woods passed to Jameson Wilson for 35 yards and a touchdown.

Indian Land answered in a hurry. Myles Stinson scored from one-yard out, and the 14-14 score remained through the end of the first half.

Malachi Jefferson gave the Warriors a 21-14 lead on a three-yard run, but Westside’s 27-yard field goal cut it to 21-17 after three quarters.

Puckett scored on a two-yard run and Westside led 25-21. Indian Land answered and took a 28-25 advantage when Singletary scored on a 13-yard run.

Westside answered for a 32-28 lead, when Pucket scampered in from eight yards out. The Warriors countered and took a 35-32 lead on a 21-yard touchdown run by Singletary with 1:55 remaining in the game.

Westside won the game in the last seconds. They lined up for a field goal, but faked it and Puckett scored from four yards out with three seconds left on the clock.

Indian Land ended its season with an overall record of 7-5.

Class 3A

Powdersville 42, Chester 12

Powdersville defeated the Chester Cyclones 42-12 in the second round of the playoffs Thursday night at Powdersville.

Powdersville led 15-0 after one period and 42-0 at the break.

Quarterback Eli Hudgens led the charge for Powdersville. He passed for two touchdowns and ran for another. His first scoring pass was for 28 yards, and the second covered 77 yards. His rushing touchdown was from 21 yards out.

Running back Thomas Williams added a pair of rushing touchdowns and was on the receiving end of both of Hudgens’ scoring passes.

Powdersville ended their scoring when Jacob Matocha intercepted a Cyclones’ pass and returned it for a touchdown in the second quarter.

Chester scored in the third period when Andre Evans capped an 80-yard march with an eight-yard run. The Cyclones completed the scoring in the final quater when Trooper Floyd passed to Kyan Kennedy on a 41-yard play.

Chester completed its season with an overall mark of 7-5.

Class 2A

Andrew Jackson 29, Timberland 14

The Andrew Jackson Volunteers defeated Timberland 29-14 in the second round of the playoffs Saturday at Andrew Jackson.

Timberland broke a scoreless battle early in the second period and took an 8-0 lead. The Volunteers answered to tie it at 8-8. They added another score later in the quarter when they intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown. They took that 15-7 lead into the halftime break.

Andrew Jackson scored late in the third period when they returned a fumble for a touchdown. That gave the Vols a 22-7 advantage. Timberland scored on their next possession to cut the lead to 22-14 heading to the final 12 minutes.

Andrew Jackson got their final score midway through the fourth quarter on a Trey Thompson touchdown. That pushed their lead to 29-14 and gave them some breathing room down the stretch.

The Volunteers improved to 10-2 with their 10th straight victory. They will host Barnwell next Friday in the third round of play.

Class 1A

Lewisville 43, Denmark-Olar 18

The Lewisville Lions defeated Denmark-Olar 43-18 in the second round of the playoffs Saturday afternoon in Richburg.

Lewisville improved to 11-1 on the year and will travel to Greenville to play Christ Church in the third round of the playoffs next Friday night.
