Rochester's Ability Building Community names new executive director

May 16—ROCHESTER — Ability Building Community named Sarah Timmerman as its new executive director.

She is known for her "person-centeredness" in her 24 years with ABC disability services. Wayne Stenberg, who served as director for four years, retired in December 2023. In a Facebook post in December, ABC said, "Wayne has been a terrific advocate for our individuals served and staff. We will miss him greatly around our building."

"I am looking forward to continuing to focus on our mission and advocating for those we serve to be able to receive the best services possible. I would truly not be where I am today if it wasn't for the amazing support from our extremely dedicated staff, stakeholders, and Board of Directors," Timmerman shared in a Facebook post. "I am very excited about what the future holds, and I know, given my first-hand experiences here, there is no challenge that is too difficult for us to overcome as we all work together towards the same goal. Team ABC has and will continue to make amazing things happen."

Timmerman is the current director of program innovation and worked in many program positions over the years. She says working at ABC is where she is meant to be and working with the people is a "rewarding job."

"She has had so many positive experiences throughout her career here," ABC shared in the Facebook post, "but has also gone through plenty of changes and experienced many challenges always facing them head on and ensuring that the needs of individuals served and staff remain forefront in her mind."
