New Rochelle man arrested after brutal early morning baseball bat assault on two men

A New Rochelle man was arrested Sunday in connection to a baseball bat assault that left two men hospitalized.

New Rochelle Police Capt. J. Collins Coyne said a 36-year-old man and his 66-year-old uncle were attacked with a baseball bat at 3:45 a.m. Sunday on the corner of Washington Avenue and Fourth Street, several blocks from Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital and not far from the Pelham line.

Coyne said the 66-year-old was found breathing and unresponsive and was taken to a nearby hospital for surgery, where the 36-year-old was also treated for serious head injuries.

An investigation by New Rochelle detectives led to the arrest of Jose Ochoa, 28, of New Rochelle. He was charged with first- and second-degree assault, both felonies, and criminal possession of a weapon.

Coyne said the names of the victims will not yet be released as an investigation of the incident is ongoing. Anyone with information about the attack should contact New Rochelle Police at 914-654-2300.
