ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — The Public Schools of Robeson County was presented with a $12 million check for a new Robeson Career and Technical Education Center.

North Carolina Sen. Danny Britt Jr. and State Superintendent Catherine Truitt presented the district with the check in a special called meeting Monday morning.

The funding was awarded from the needs-based public school capital fund, the district said in a news release. The $12 million check puts the district’s total for the facility at $72 million.

“What a great day,” Robeson County Superintendent Freddie Williamson said. “We will serve 1,000 students in this facility. Isn’t that amazing?”

The 110,000 square foot facility will have CTE courses and a new state-of-the-art culinary arts program and drone technology program, the district said. It will also be home to the new Robeson Planetarium and Science Center.
