Robeson County man accused of raping child, faces more than 15 sex charges

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — A Robeson County man is accused of raping a child and faces more than 15 child sex charges, authorities said on Thursday.

Tony Orlando Locklear, 47, of Pembroke, was charged with five counts of indecent liberties with a child, five counts of sexual offense by a person in a parental role, two counts of first-degree rape, two counts of attempted first-degree rape, two counts of sex offense with a child and one count of rape of a child.

A sexual assault investigation was initiated in 2021, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office said. According to the initial report, the sexual assaults started in 2013.

“Unfortunately, there are people that prey upon children. As one of the most egregious crimes we see, sexually assaulting a child not only robs them of their innocence but also leaves lasting mental trauma,” Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said in a news release. “Children see an adult as somebody who can be entrusted to protect them, but as seen during this detailed investigation, that trust was betrayed.”

Locklear was booked into the Robeson County Detention Center under an $11 million bond.
