Robert Kirkman reveals how you can tell if a Walking Dead character is going to survive

‘The Walking Dead’ isn’t a comfortable viewing experience for fans of the show.

More often than not someone that you’ve spent several seasons adoring ends up either being smashed to a pulp with a barbed wire baseball bat or being munched on by zombies.

As a result, you spend most of the show sat nervously with your hands over your eyes praying for everyone to get to the conclusion safe and well. But it turns out that Robert Kirkman, who created ‘The Walking Dead’ comics and has written a number of episodes for the show, too, has a great ploy for avoiding spoilers when he’s asked who’s going to die next. Something that happens on a regular basis. So to avoid giving spoilers he simply lies.

Robert Kirkman made this admission, via Cinema Blend, during his recent appearance on ‘Conan’ over in the US, explaining that when he’s asked who might perish in ’The Walking Dead’ he usually becomes instantly flustered and so quickly decides to lie.

“I do a lot of interviews and a lot of people don’t know that I can’t answer the ‘who dies next’ question. And I get it so often that I just started answering it inaccurately,” Robert Kirkman admitted, before revealing that some people even take his responses seriously.

“Every single time the person that’s interviewing me is like, ‘Oh my God, really?’ I get people that are mad at me because I poke fun like that, but I’m just like, ‘Guys I’m throwing you a bone.’ If I answer the question that means that person’s definitely not dying.”

All in all that’s a pretty smart way to keep ‘Walking Dead‘ fans in suspense, especially since the mere mention that either Daryl, Rick, or Carl will die is enough to make people instantly mourn and weep. But now you just need to remind yourself that the next time Robert Kirkman utters the name of your favourite ‘Walking Dead’ character it means that they’re safe and sound for at least a few more episodes yet.

You only need to worry when Kirkman avoids mentioning a character, because at that point they’re almost certainly on the cusp of becoming a zombie’s dinner.
