Robbie Williams has revealed that his wife keeps painkillers “behind lock and key” at home.

The former Take That star has been open about his drug use during the height of his fame and has spent time in rehab dealing with his substance abuse problems.

He has now been sober for a long time but shared that wife Ayda – who he has been married to for 12 years – still locks up tablets in their house.

Speaking on the On The Edge podcast, Williams said that, as an addict, he used to always be looking for “loopholes”.

He said he’d now got rid of them and that he hasn’t had a drink for 22 years, saying he was "pleased to say that I’m a sober guy".

But he added that he still feels “something's always lurking around the corner though” and that he “still can't be trusted with pills”.

The 48-year-old said: "The wife has to put them behind lock and key.

"What happens with me is, there will be some sort of pills that are somewhere, for a medical procedure or whatever and they will just be there and they can be there for 18 months, every single day.

"Vicodin, whatever, every day, see them, go to bed.

"One day, for no reason – not being sad, or not being happy or not feeling vulnerable, just whatever is in the air that day – all of those pills go."
