Roanoke County School Board announce three new principals, supervisor

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke County Public School (RCPS) district is welcoming three new principals and a supervisor to the team. The school board selected Travis Anderson, Sheree Anderson, and Laura Bell to lead as principals at three schools in the district.

Travis Anderson was appointed as the principal of William Byrd High School. Anderson was selected to succeed Tammy Newcomb, who is now the new executive Director of Administration for the school district.

He graduated from Virginia Tech with two degrees in curriculum and administration. He started his career with RCPS in 2012 as a math teacher at Cave Spring High School. Eight years later, he became the Assistant Principal at William Byrd High School.

The district also selected Sheree Anderson to lead the Green Valley Elementary School. She began working in the school district as a teacher at W. E. Cundiff Elementary in 2006. Since then, Anderson worked her way up and served as the Assistant Principal at Glenvar Valley Elementary. She studied at the University of Virginia where she earned a certification in curriculum.

In 2022, she took the role as the assistant principal.

In addition, the school board also selected Philip Martin as the new supervisor of social studies for the district. Martin was previously the dean at William Byrd High School and taught with the Roanoke City school district for nine years.

All principals will start their new positions on July 1.

“The caliber of the individuals moving into these roles is a testament to the fact that we have talented, well-prepared talent within Roanoke County Public Schools,” said Dr. Ken Nicely, superintendent of Roanoke County Public Schools. “I am completely confident in their ability to take our schools and programs to the next level, and I look forward to what they will accomplish for our students and our community.”
