Roadside bomb in southern Afghan city kills 8 Afghan police, 2 detainees

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - An Afghan official says a roadside bomb has killed 10 people in the main city in southern Afghanistan.

Kandahar province spokesman Javid Faisal says policemen were out late Saturday night inspecting a bomb that had been found in a residential neighbourhood of Kandahar. They detained three suspects and were driving back with them in a police pickup truck when the vehicle struck a bomb buried in the road. Eight police officers and two detainees were killed in the blast.

It was one of a number of bombings on Saturday that killed at least 22 people across the country.
