Here’s how the roads look Friday morning after Colorado’s major snowstorm

DENVER (KDVR) — While the midweek snowstorm is wrapping up on Friday morning, some Colorado roads still need work done when it comes to clearing snow.

The snowstorm moved across the Front Range from Wednesday night into Friday morning. Some areas totaled over four feet of snow, while others saw no powder.

Denver weather: Early snow and gradual clearing before weekend warming

The snow affected many major roads, causing a few to close on Thursday. While many residential roads are clear and highways are opening back up, some spots in Colorado are still dicey on Friday morning.

Interstate 25

Interstate 25 is open. The roads are a bit icy and snowpacked in some areas, but overall, they are mostly clear.

According to COtrip, there are icy spots one mile north of the Woodmoor exit and Castle Rock along with snowpacked spots between Lone Tree and 26 miles north of Fort Collins.

Interstate 70

I-70 hosted all sorts of roadway messes on Thursday, and it was closed in both directions between Morrison and Silverthorne. One ski bus was stuck on the roadway for 22 hours.

The interstate is currently open, and the roads are clear, although wet.

Despite Thursday’s conditions, the weather hasn’t stopped morning skiers from heading to the mountains on Friday morning for the champagne powder.

FOX31’s Jim Hooley was live at I-70 where he said there was a big backup beyond Genesee and Evergreen, going up into the higher elevation towards the mountains.

Trucks are being asked not to go up the roadway until crews can clear more of the interstate. As of Friday morning, it’s suggested that big rigs don’t go beyond Golden up to the west and east on I-70.

US 6

U.S. 6 is currently open, except for Loveland Pass, which was also shut down on Thursday.

In the metro, COtrip warns of icy and wet spots, but the roads are mainly clear.

Berthoud Pass

Berthoud Pass is back open on Friday morning after being closed on Thursday due to adverse conditions, avalanche recovery after a natural slide and other winter operations.

While Berthoud Pass is open, the roads aren’t completely clear, per a Colorado Department of Transportation camera on the pass.

Even though the pass was closed on Thursday, people still tried to get through. An arrest was made after a truck driver attempted to drive through the pass after it was shut down.

US 285

U.S. 285 was closed on Thursday just south of C-470 due to a jackknifed semitruck.

Even though the snow is winding down, the roads still aren’t clear on U.S. 285. It is still closed from Morrison CO 8 to Pine Junction from mile 249 to 229 as of Friday morning.

Some parts of the roadway are open, but COtrip warns of slush, ice and snowpacked spots.

CDOT cameras show roads with mostly snow on them.

Roads still closed

Some roads are still closed as of Friday at 8:45 a.m., according to COtrip:

  • US 6 Loveland Pass from mile point 222 to 229

  • CO 9 Hoosier Pass from mile point 64 to 80.  (CO 9 is not a viable detour for any vehicles from I-70 – passenger vehicles may stay on I-70)

  • CO 14 from mile point 61 to 121

  • CO 46 from mile point 0 to 6

  • US 285 SB from Morrison CO 8 to Pine Junction from mile 249 to 229

Multiple other routes may be blocked due to crashes, stuck semitrucks and other issues. Delays are likely on any roadway impacted by the storm.
