Road repair and sandbag replacement underway along NC12

SOUTHERN SHORES, N.C. (WAVY) – Work to repair damaged pavement near the intersection of U.S. 158 and NC 12 is expected to begin on Wednesday, April 17.

Southern Shores Road Repair

A contractor with the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will begin work to mill and resurface the affected areas in Southern Shores.

Crews will first tackle the left turn lanes from U.S. 158 South onto North Ocean Boulevard near the Aycock Brown Visitor Center. Once that’s complete, they will move on to the six-lane section of highway at the same intersection.

The work will only be conducted on weekdays.

Traffic delays are expected, so plan ahead and drive with extreme caution while in the area.

Ocracoke Sandbag Replacement

Meanwhile on the Outer Banks, a project is underway to replace sandbags along a stretch of Ocracoke Island, on the north end.

Last week, sand and ocean overwash caused part of the road in Ocracoke to close.

There will be single-lane closures with temporary traffic signals until this work is complete.
