The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was at the airport in St. John's on Monday morning, investigating what was reported to be a suspicious package.

In the end, it turned out to be an unattended bag and the investigation concluded with no disruption to flights coming or going.

Media relations officer James Cadigan said the department's explosives disposal unit was on scene early Monday morning as part of the probe.

The airport authority had asked passengers to arrive earlier than normal to keep things moving smoothly.

This is the third time the airport has seen an early-morning police investigation since December, when another suspicious package was reported. In January, the police investigated a bomb threat that briefly shut down operations and delayed several flights.

Both previous incidents turned out to be false alarms.
