Riverdale Cast, EP Talk Season 1's Gossip Girl and Twin Peaks Parallels
Word of warning: This isn’t your grandmother’s Archie.
Although The CW’s forthcoming Riverdale is based on the iconic comic book characters, and, yes, Archie Andrews (played by KJ Apa) does sport a red mane, Greg Berlanti’s take on the material will be decidedly darker. And soapier.

Blending aspects of both Gossip Girl and Twin Peaks, the midseason series — which is set in the present day — takes the “classic coming-of-age stories that you’ve known from 75 years of Archie Comics,” explains executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, “and then it’s got this sort of shadow world underneath it. We explore the secret life of all of these character that you thought you knew.”
