River Action announces Eddy Award winners

River Action is honoring those who promote the Mississippi River with its annual Eddy Awards next month.

The awards will be presented at Fish & Fire, River Action’s annual friendraiser/fundraiser on May 2 at the Waterfront Event Center, 2021 State Street in Bettendorf. Click here to buy tickets for the fundraiser.

There are six categories of Eddy Awards, including:

  • Education (innovations, program, curriculum)

  • River Activity (recreation, relaxation)

  • Arts (performance, written word, fine arts)

  • Stewardship (environmental enhancement of the river)

  • Revitalization (commerce, business, industry)

  • Special Recognition

This year’s Eddy Award winners are:

  • Education—Kelly McKay, Building Better Birders workshops

  • Art—Musco Light & City of Muscatine, the Norbert F Beckey Memorial Bridge lighting presentation

  • Stewardship—Ducks Unlimited, wetland restorations

  • Stewardship—Mary Lind, Keep Moline Beautiful Garden Guardian Program

  • River Activity—Quad City Health Initiative and Bi-State Regional Commission, QCTrails.org

  • Revitalization—Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, The Last Picture House

  • Special Recognition-Jeff Nelson, MetroLINK CEO, for 40 years of championing sustainability

For 40 years, River Action has been dedicated to developing the environmental, economic and cultural vitality of the Mississippi River and its riverfront in the Quad Cities area. The Eddy Awards recognize individuals, organizations, corporations, schools, groups and governments that went against the current to create outstanding river activity or development that was well designed and environmentally responsible.
