The rise of President Trump through the lens of ‘American Horror Story: Cult’

The premiere of American Horror Story: Cult brought back some intense memories for some people as it was a little too close to reality. The episode, titled “Election Night”, showed an extreme representation of the drastically different reactions voters had around the country from those who suddenly felt a new sense of empowerment to those who questioned, “What's gonna happen with Merrick Garland?” On one end of the spectrum, Kai Anderson, played by Evan Peters, is a Trump supporter who feels empowered with the new POTUS now in office. In one scene we see Kai blending Cheetos puffs and smearing the orange powder all over his face while imitating Trump’s “It’s gonna be huge.” While Ally Mayfair-Richards, played by Sara Paulson, is a woman who completely loses her mind after her phobias are triggered post-election. One of which, is clowns. Absolutely terrifying clowns. Later, while in her therapist’s office, she reveals, “Our housekeeper is gone. The moment that man got elected, she just stopped showing up and we don't know if she went back to Guatemala or was rounded up. It's awful. I honestly don't know how I'm gonna get through the next four years. I really don't. My anxiety is just as intense now as it was on election night.” While the first episode alone is frightening, and not just because of the creepy AF clowns, at least AHS: Cult is an outlet for some people to poke fun at what they believe is a real life American horror story.
