Risant Health acquires Geisinger for new healthcare platform

EYEWITNESS NEWS (WBRE/WYOU) — Risant Health announced on Tuesday, the acquisition of Geisinger as its first system dedicated to increasing access to value-based healthcare and coverage.

Risant Health along with Geisinger will create a new value-based care platform that will include the best tools, practices, technology, and services to support community-based health systems.

According to Risant Health, their goal is to help improve the health of millions across the country by growing and accelerating the adoption of value-based care in diverse, community-based health system environments.

With the completion of its first acquisition, Risant Health is bringing together the integrated care of Kaiser Permanente and Geisinger’s experience in advancing value-based care in a healthcare model that will include various payers and a broad network of providers, while serving many vulnerable and marginalized communities.

Jaewon Ryu, M.D., J.D., who has served as Geisinger’s president and CEO since 2019, will now become the first CEO of Risant Health, and Terry Gilliland, M.D., will take over the role of president and CEO of Geisinger.

Geisinger will help shape Risant Health’s strategy and operation model by maintaining its name and mission and continuing to accept patients covered by other health plans all while offering members a network of care providers in addition to Geisinger.

Geisinger is proud to formally join Risant Health as its inaugural health system, which will accelerate our vision to make better health easier, more affordable and more accessible for the communities we serve. Geisinger now can extend its vision, strategy and impact to more Pennsylvanians because of the access to an expanded set of tools, expertise and capital that joining Risant Health provides.”

Risant Health says they expect to acquire four to five additional leading healthy systems over the next five years.

Risant Health’s “value-based” platform is going to help support health systems with a series of technologies, services, and capabilities designed to deliver superior health outcomes, at lower cost of care, especially in diverse business models.

Initial platform solutions will help Risant Health organizations deliver evidence-based care everywhere, including the “best-of” knowledge to provide effective care at the right time.

The acquisition of Geisinger by Risant Health was reviewed and approved by federal and state agencies and the transaction was officially closed, on March 31, 2024.
