Rio Grande baseball team honors late teammate

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It was a very emotional day on the Eldorado High School baseball field on Wednesday. Just a day after Rio Grande junior Isaac Venzor Prado passed away from a heart condition, the Ravens and Eagles honored his memory in a pregame ceremony.

With hundreds of supporters in attendance, Isaac’s family carried his jersey from home plate to first base as the game started with an intentional walk in his honor. Ravens and Eagles players, along with Isaac’s family, then gathered around the pitching mound in prayer.

“We wanted to honor the family and make sure that Isaac is never forgotten,” said Rio Grande head coach Orlando Griego. “He was a great kid, great ball player and he’s going to be missed, but we’ll always carry him in our hearts. Use it as a moment to teach our kids to love each other and be kind to each other, forgive each other and always support and be each other’s brother.”

Ravens players have also added a decal of Isaac’s number, 26, to the back of their jerseys in his memory. The Rio Grande scoreboard will also be named after him later this season.
