Rio Games Generate Week 2 Ratings Wins For NBC News
NBC News programs dominated Olympics weeks, though programs experienced some Summer Games slippage.
Today show scored an Olympics bump from Rio, though Week 2 slid 14% in overall audience (5.104M) compared to the London Summer Games, and 16% in the news demo (2.038M).
ABC’s Good Morning America stats also slipped (4.128M, 1.365M) compared to London. CBS This Morning enjoyed an uptick, but still finished a lap behind its competitors (3.195M, 895K).
In the evenings, NBC Nightly News averaged 9.8M total viewers during Rio Games Week 2, which is flat compared to London – and a win over ABC’s World News Tonight (7.818M) and CBS Evening News (6.279M).
In the news demo, NBC’s Lester Holt (2.77M) led ABC’s David Muir (1.66M), and CBS’s Scott Pelley (1.41M).
