From Rio to Atlantic City: Gymnast Gabby Douglas Will Be a 2017 Miss America Judge

Gabby Douglas Gives Fans a Health Update After Removing Cyst in Her Mouth: 'Feeling Much Better Now!'

Gabby Douglas is moving off of the podium and onto the judge's panel.

After securing team gold in Rio, the U.S. gymnast will next serve as a judge for the 2017 Miss America competition, reported E! News.

"Miss America has been such an amazing event for so many years and I am excited to have the opportunity to judge the competition this year," Douglas, 20, said in a statement to E! News. "The contestants are a great example of strong women across America and I especially look forward to hearing the platforms that each of them will represent!"

Douglas is joining actresses Laura Marano and Sara Foster, as well as Mark Cuban, singer Cole Swindell and former Miss America Sharlene Wells Hawkes on the celebrity judges panel. Swindell previously told PEOPLE he's "so excited to be a judge at this year's competition."



"Knowing how hard the contestants must work to get there, I'm looking forward to helping one of them become Miss America," the "You Should Be Here" singer added.

Despite a difficult 2016 Olympic run, categorized by harsh online backlash and missed individual medals, Douglas recently told PEOPLE that she had a "fantastic" time in Rio.

"We won the gold medal as a team, and it was just such an amazing experience. I came to the Olympics and won a gold medal," she said. "That's still really awesome. I can only do what I can do, and if people want to say their stuff on social media, I can't stop them."

The 2017 Miss America competition is on Sept. 11, 2016 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Douglas will also soon embark on a tour with the rest of the Final Five.
