Ring in San Diego Padres opening weekend at East Village Block Party

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Opening weekend for the San Diego Padres is coming up and you’re invited to ring in the 2024 season with the annual East Village Block Party.

Come out for the free, family-friendly event on Saturday, March 30 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on J Street from 7th to 10th Avenue in front of Petco Park, hosted by the East Village Association.

Padres schedule, including two games in South Korea, released

The San Diego Padres home opener weekend starts Thursday, March 28 at 1:10 p.m., with games everyday through Sunday against the San Francisco Giants.

On Friday, it’s a Party in the Park with discounted drinks, live entertainment and the first 40,000 fans in attendance will receive an Opening Series Hat.

On Saturday, the Padres House Band will be playing a mix of pop, country and oldies favorites.

On Sunday, don’t miss the first KidsFest of the year. Families are encouraged to arrive early for bounce house fun and other inflatables, games, face painters and kid-friendly activities. After the game, kids 14 and under can run the bases.

The block party will have live music and entertainment, food, beer and cocktails, local retail vendors, photo opportunities, and a variety of fun family-friendly activities and competitions, including a walk-through car show, local sports teams including San Diego Legion, fitness activations hosted by East Village gyms such as Orangetheory Fitness and the BXNG Cub, a gaming area, and more, celebrating the return of East Village’s San Diego Padres.

“We are so excited to bring back the East Village Block Party on Opening Weekend for its 12th year,” said Ethan Olsen, Assistant District Manager of the East Village Association. “The Block Party is one of East Village’s most renowned events and it truly offers the opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate all the wonderful local businesses, restaurants and retailers that make the East Village so full of life. Our community welcomes everyone with open arms to celebrate the return of baseball season in the Padres very own neighborhood.”

Vendors El Rey Tacos a Vapor, Fuego Me Up and more will be serving food. You can also grab Ballpark classics like hot dogs, fries, Texas style brisket and Southern comforts from Golden Bear Barbeque, We Cookn and Doggos Gus. For those with a sweet tooth, CAKED and Teaspoon Boba will be there. Or try some heathier options like smoothies, wellness shots, sushi and more at local East Village vegan café, Jai Jus.

There will also be beer, seltzers and cocktails from local vendors.

Join in the fun by listening to Latin bands, local DJ’s playing 90s throwbacks and classics, or listen to some local talent on the main stage like Israel Maldonado Music, DJ Kid Wonder, and Mariachi Dinastia.

Padres FanFest: What to know about this year’s event

Every Sunday, active duty service members, veterans and their families receive 25% off tickets and 10% off all season long. The Sunday, March 31 game vs the Giants will also be Military Opening Day.

Just ahead of their home opener weekend, the unique baseball experience — Padres FanFest — is taking over Petco Park on Sunday, March 24 from 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with Padres meet-and-greets, an exclusive look at some new additions to the park and much more.
