Riley Strain’s mom is still seeking answers about her son’s disappearance on March 8 before he was found dead on March 22.

In a recent interview, Michelle Whiteid told NewsNation that she received a text from her son about his drink tasting odd. Although Strain last visited Luke Bryan's restaurant and bar in Nashville, with his Delta Chi fraternity members the night he went missing, he visited multiple bars that evening.

Whiteid said Strain texted her after ordering a rum and coke, writing that “it didn’t taste good,” according to the outlet. She said she texted him that he shouldn’t drink it, to which he further elaborated that “it tastes like barbecue.”

“Well, that sounds awful," she said she texted back. "He said, ‘Well, it sounds good, but it’s not.' "

“Maybe there was something in it that shouldn’t have been,” Whiteid told the outlet.

His mother previously told PEOPLE her last message with her son occurred prior to his visit to Bryan's bar, so it's unclear where he was served the rum and coke.

PEOPLE has reached out to the TC Restaurant Group, which oversees Bryan’s establishment, for comment on Whiteid's interview, but did not receive an immediate response.

The TC Restaurant Group previously told PEOPLE in a statement that "during Riley’s visit to Luke’s 32 Bridge, our records show he purchased and was served one alcoholic drink and two waters."

"At 9:35 p.m., our security team made a decision based on our conduct standards to escort him from the venue through our Broadway exit at the front of our building," their statement said. "He was followed down the stairs with one member of his party. The individual with Riley did not exit and returned upstairs."

Strain's body was later found in the Cumberland River in West Nashville, “approximately 8 miles from downtown," the Metro Nashville Police Department said in a statement. Police later told PEOPLE that the "preliminary autopsy showed no apparent signs of foul play and his death continues to appear accidental."

Whiteid told PEOPLE in late March that her son Facetimed her and had been texting her about his experience with his fellow Delta Chi fraternity members the night he had gone missing. The last conversation the pair had on the night of his disappearance ended with "I love you."

“We FaceTimed for a while, he wanted me to see around, and he was so excited,” she recalled. “Then we hung up and he texted me and he was like, ‘It was kind of hard to hear you, but I wanted you to see what was happening.’ "

"I said, ‘Well, you boys be safe. Make good choices. I love you guys.’ And he said, “I love you, too,’ " she added. "And that’s it, that’s the last I have heard from him.”
