Ridley Scott has no plans to stop making Alien movies any time soon.

After revealing that he's already written the sequel to the upcoming Alien: Covenant, Scott said that despite being busy producing other projects, like Blade Runner 2049, he can easily carry on the Alien series.

"If you really want a franchise, I can keep cranking it for another six. I'm not going to close it down again. No way," he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Alien: Covenant is the first of three sequels to Prometheus that will take us to the "back entrance" of the first Alien film.

And despite the general mixed reaction to Prometheus, Scott has outlined how Alien: Covenant fits with the prequel. "Prometheus was about who and why? This is getting closer to who designed it and for what reason," he teased.

"What we did really well on Prometheus, considering that it was a ground zero idea that was starting all over again, was I discovered that people do have an appetite for the alien and what he means and his evolution.

"People still want to see it. So I return to a little bit of that but not wholeheartedly; there's a lot in here which is new as well."

After the exciting news that the release of Alien: Covenant has been brought forward a week, a terrifying new trailer was unleashed that saw the Xenomorphs go on the attack.

Alien: Covenant lands in cinemas on May 12.
