Four-year-old Gideon can’t see or hear, but he can feel. And this video from YouTuber Life With a Happy Heart captures the magic moment for Gideon as the wind comes rushing through his car window.

Gideon was born with a terminal genetic condition called peroxisomal biogenesis disorder. The mutation can cause liver problems, craniofacial dysmorphism, and brain development disorders. Those who suffer from it rarely live past the age of 10.

“We’d be told his life expectancy could range anywhere from two to 20 years, and any children we have from now on have a one in four chance of being born with the same genetic disorder.” said his mother, Samantha, in a lecture at Lake Point Church. She and her husband, Kevin, are devout Christians.

“I remember the day Gideon was diagnosed,” she says, “We still had tears fresh on our faces and we looked at each other and agreed that any kids we have don’t belong to us anyways because they’re on loan. They truly are a gift from God.”

Gideon’s health was not the first serious challenge for the couple. Samantha became pregnant with their first child early in their relationship and Kevin was reluctant to marry. The couple however worked out their differences and forged a stronger bond. Today, they have three children together, including Gideon.

“Gideon’s name fittingly means ‘mighty warrior,’ and we believe that God created him this way for a mighty purpose,” explains Samantha.

Caring for him is a round-the-clock job. Gideon cannot do anything on his own and is usually up in the middle of the night, say the couple. There’s also the high medical costs for his care and the needs of raising a family on a single income.

“One day we will unwillingly bury our son, but God willingly watched his son suffer and die for our salvation,” says Kevin.
