Richmond Police Officer promoted to Major

May 16—During the Richmond City Commission meeting on Tuesday, members of the Police Department and Commission along with citizens celebrated the promotion of Officer Daniel Deaton to the rank of Major.

Deaton, who has been employed at the Richmond Police Department since 2009, has his Bachelors of Science in Police Studies from EKU and is a graduate of the Academy of Police Supervision Class #75 and the Criminal Justice Executive Development Class #29.

He is also a Certified Police Motorcycle, Taser, Vehicle Operations, and STOPS instructor and Police Training Officer and Motorcycle Unit Commander.

"Major Deaton has faithfully served the citizens of Richmond since 2009," noted the Richmond Police Department in a statement. "From leading our Motorcycle Unit to coordinating internships and investigations, he stays quite busy keeping our department operations running smoothly!"

Chief Rodney Richardson said that he is honored to recommend Deaton to become a Major.

"I've seen from the day he started to where he's come now and I'm pretty proud of him," Chief Richardson told those at the Commission meeting on Tuesday night.

Major Deaton was pinned by Connie Clayburn and his wife.

Other city business:

Approved an ordinance adopting and enacting supplements to the code of ordinances.

Approved an ordinance changing zoning classification at 814 Heath Street.

Adopted several job descriptions

Authorized the waiver of fees for Enrich.

Appointed member to tax board.

The next meeting of the Richmond Board of Commissioners will take place on May 28.
