Richmond Police hold Awards Banquet

May 3—Local law enforcement officers were honored fro their outstanding work in the community, as the Richmond Police Department held their annual awards banquet.

According to RPD's Facebook post about the event made Thursday, 50 awards went to 31 distinctive personnel.

Awards included perfect attendance, distinguished service, exceptional service, awards of achievement, award of excellence, unit citation, lifesaving awards, Officers of the Quarter, and a 2023 Officer of the Year.

"Officers who are being recognized tonight are some of the finest law enforcement officers in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. I am so proud of the work you do. That work is the reason why our community overwhelmingly supports you. It's the reason that people in this community trust you and the very reason you are legitimate in their eyes. So, thank you, and keep up the good work," said Police Chief Rodney Richardson during his remarks at the event.

Richardson told the Register that the Officer of the Year for 2023 was given to Officer Kate Knight.

"Officers don't take their duties lightly, and we are proud to recognize the work they put in each and every day for our community," the post on Facebook wrote in part.
