Richmond Heights to have Women's Empowerment Luncheon

Mar. 3—Richmond Heights has announced that it will be hosting, for the second year in a row, a Women's Empowerment Luncheon.

Starting at 11 a.m. on March 9 at the Highland Heights Community Center 5827 Highland Road. there will be a jazz reception followed by talks from featured speakers, including Congresswoman Shontel Brown, University Hospitals Dr. Lauren Griebel, News anchor and S.H.I.N.E. Founder Danita Harris and Chief Meteorologist and Anchor for WKYC Channel 3 Betsy Kling.

Richmond Heights Mayor Kim Thomas said the speakers will be going over issues related to women's empowerment.

"This luncheon will unite women from all walks of life to inspire, empower, and uplift one another," Thomas wrote in a statement. "We have carefully curated a program of women who will help us celebrate women's strength, resilience, and achievements."

Thomas said she hopes the event will bring women together and allow for community empowerment through connecting resources that community members might have.

Richmond Heights has increased its outreach into the community. Thomas said in an earlier interview that events like this one and a Health and Wellness Fair that was held earlier last month are all in the hope of promoting community partnership and participation.

"The program also includes live music, networking opportunities, and a great lunch," she said in the statement. "And we will recognize our first Women of the Year."

Last year's inaugural Women's History Month Event and Tea saw over 150 women attend Richmond Heights Upper School, according to Thomas. The speakers told their personal stories in the hopes of other women being able to relate with their experiences.

This year's event will be slightly different as this luncheon will be awarding a Woman of the Year award. The woman was selected by a committee from a number of nominees and she will be announced during the luncheon.

Tickets for the event cost $50 and can be bought from the Richmond Heights Recreation Department by calling 216-383-6313
