Richmond County Sheriff’s Office warns of recent phone scam

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WJBF) – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a recent wave of scam phone calls in the area.

Officials state that several local residents have received calls from phone numbers ‘spoofing’ The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, asking for money to be placed on gift cards or for personal information. The phone numbers reportedly mimic an employee with the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators state that if you receive a call from one of these scammers, you should hang up. You’re asked to never pay money or give away personal information over the phone to anyone claiming to represent the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
